Almost every day when I get home from work, I have some surprise visitors at my house.
Apparently it is armadillo season at my house. For the past week, when I pull into my driveway there always seems to be a rolly-polly armadillo rummaging in my yard.
It can be frustrating. I just want to get into my house and there is Mr. Armadillo, working on his own schedule, completely ignoring me. I don't want to bother him or scare him. So I wait. I wait for him to get away from my porch so I can go inside.
But, he’s actually giving me a moment of rest.
You know that feeling when you’re in your car when you get home from work or wherever you were and just sit in silence. Ah, silence. We don’t get a lot of it in our day to day, do we? From the combined noise of the world and our busy lives, it can be overwhelming.
Entering the house means dishes to do, laundry to fold, kids and family to feed. A never ending to-do list of tasks.
Maybe when you get home today, pretend there is an armadillo looking for ants in your yard. Take a moment to breathe in and out. Take a moment to pray and thank God for what He’s done for you.
Oh, and thank that little armadillo for taking care of the pests in your yard…and for giving you a moment of silence.
