All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle. -St. Francis of Assisi
The darkness can be overwhelming. It can make us feel suffocated, alone, and like we’ll never escape. But did you know that darkness actually isn’t real?
Darkness doesn’t exist by itself as a unique physical entity, but it is simply “the absence of light”. So, where do we find the light?
If you’ve ever been in Sunday School, now is the time for the answer everyone says…
“Jesus!”
There’s lots of verses in the Bible that talk about God being our light.
Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light. -Micah 7:8
You, Lord , keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. -Psalms 18:28
He reveals the deep things of darkness and brings utter darkness into the light. -Job 12:22 NIV
So when we feel like we're in the darkest places of our lives…why do we ignore God? Why do we run away? Is it because we’re ashamed of the place we're in? Maybe it’s because we feel like God can only see our best. Well, that’s a lie.
God wants to see your darkness. He wants to see your brokenness. Your sorrow, worry, and doubt. Because only He is the solution. Only He can bring light to your darkness. So wherever you are today, chase after the one true Light.
