New Music Friday: "Place In This World" by FOR KING + COUNTRY with Michael W. Smith

Happy Friday! This week, we’re excited to feature the song “Place In This World” by FOR KING + COUNTRY, with Michael W. Smith. Michael W. Smith was the original writer and performer of this song when it was first released in 1991, and he continues to be a trailblazer in contemporary Christian music.

The simple yet powerful lyrics resonate deeply, reminding us that we can’t find our true identity in anything other than God. He is so good, and being in His presence is irreplaceable. God created each of us with a beautiful purpose, even before we were born. It’s comforting to know that we can rest assured, knowing that He has it all under control.

Michael W. Smith shared the inspiration behind the song: “I read a lot of letters back in the day, letters of desperation, and one of them was so desperate that at the end, it simply said, 'I'm just trying to find my place in this world.’” If you’re feeling discouraged about your place in the world, remember that God is always there for you.

This reminds me of the verse from Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

I particularly love the lyrics: “Not a lot to lean on, I need your light to help me find my place in this world.” Indeed, God is all we can rely on. He never disappoints, and the results are always worth the prayer and patience.

In an interview, For King & Country’s Joel and Luke shared their perspective on the song: “We believe that our place in this world is obviously inside God's family, and we hope that’s the spirit of what people take away from this song.” They continued, “We’re all on a journey of discovering where we belong, and we believe that through God’s light, we’ll find our way.”

We encourage you to listen to this song, reflect on its powerful message, and allow it to inspire you as you navigate your own journey. God’s plans for us are beautiful, and when we align with His will, we truly find our place.
