New Music Friday: The Cross by Anne Wilson

It’s New Music Friday! This week, we’re excited to feature The Cross by Anne Wilson. We’ve all been in a place where we carry scars from what went wrong in life, but it’s a beautiful thing that we have a God whose arms are always open to us.

Anne Wilson’s popular songs, My Jesus and Sunday Sermons, both reflect on the faith we have in Jesus. However, this song invites us to bring our burdens to the cross—a place where God already intended us to lay them down. Without Him, life would be too hard to bear.

I was also excited to hear Chris Tomlin on this track. I’ve always enjoyed his worship music—his songs are powerful and moving.  His worship anthems, such as How Great Is Our God and Good Good Father, have become staples in churches worldwide. Tomlin's style is known for its powerful melodies and heartfelt lyrics that draw listeners into the presence of God.

His collaboration on The Cross adds another layer of depth and reverence to the song. His voice complements Anne Wilson's beautifully, creating a dynamic worship experience that magnifies the message of grace and redemption. I particularly love these lines:

“Everybody's got a list, at least a mile long,

Of every scar and every sin, from everywhere that we’ve gone wrong,

But there’s a reason for rejoicing, and the reason is because

That list was nailed to the cross.”

The good news is this: Jesus has already paid for our sins! We celebrate the victory that He won for us. This is a reminder of 1 Peter 2:24:“He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by His wounds you have been healed.”

No matter how far you may have strayed from the Lord, it is never too late to return to Jesus. The outcome of living the way the Lord intends us to is worth it all.

Take a listen and lean into what God is speaking to you today!
