While waiting for the hurricane to pass, I got out a jigsaw puzzle. Once the storm was over and we were back to our regular schedule, the puzzle felt more like a problem. It was half finished and still taking up room on the dining room table. Each time I walked by I was drawn to it, constantly trying to complete sections or find just one more fit. It took time away from things that actually needed to be done.
That’s when I realized it really was a problem. Even when other issues are all-encompassing, there was that puzzle, drawing me back in. No matter what else was going on, it was demanding that I solve it, worry about it, give it attention. It made it hard to pay attention to the things that I should have be focusing on.
It’s in those times I try to keep in mind that Jesus clearly said not to worry.
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. -James 1:5.
It may take a while to figure out the answer, but I trust God will reveal it when the time is right. I did finally finish that puzzle, and to my disappointment there was one piece missing! It reminded me that some things we just won’t find an answer for, and that means I keep trusting God even more.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. -Proverbs 3:5-6
