There’s something about a good jazzy saxophone solo that makes me stop what I’m doing, sit back, and relax. I’m a big Billy Joel fan and he made frequent use of the soulful sax solo early in his career. My personal favorite is this one from Scenes from an Italian Restaurant:
I don’t know what it is, but it makes me slow down. And in those few moments I’m completely relaxed and at peace.
Today, find your sax solo. Find something that makes you pause and just enjoy the moment. Maybe it’s a cup of coffee, a story your spouse is telling you, or watching the dog play with a toy. Not every moment has to be filled to the brim with stuff. As the piano man himself said:
Slow down you crazy child Take the phone off the hook and disappear for a while It's alright, you can afford to lose a day or two When will you realize Vienna waits for you?
Where's the fire? What's the hurry about? Slow down. Enjoy the moment. You won't get it back. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go put my favorite song on repeat...
