It was a typical morning when tragedy struck. A car accident that left our community heartbroken over the loss of a hometown girl, wife, mother, daughter, and friend to many. Jessica was also a part of our Hope FM family for a couple of years and we are deeply saddened by her passing. While she's now in the presence of the Lord she so fiercely loved, her family and friends are finding it hard to comprehend that she's gone.
We reached out to the Putnam County School District since their counselors are so good at helping children (and adults!) process difficulties. Hannah Silcox, MSW, RCSWI, is a Mental Health Counselor and she was in the studio with Robin to talk about how many of us might be feeling right now and how to handle it all. Listen in and feel free to share with others who would benefit from Hannah's words of wisdom.

A few key takeaways:
Feelings of anxiety are normal. Focus on the things in your circle of control.
Replace negative thoughts with positive ones, like scripture. 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God gave us not a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind.”
Stay focused on facts and not things that “could happen."
Negative thoughts are like mosquitos. What bug spray can we create with our positive thoughts to keep them away?
Remember what Jesus said in John 14:27, "Let your hearts not be troubled neither let them be afraid."
There are no words that will take away someone's grief or make them feel better. Remember them, pray, and show up for them.
Don’t avoid talking about loved ones and memories of them because they are gone. Embrace the memories and cherish them.
We thank God that, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted." Psalm 34:18
